Lesson Preparation and Attendance
Rate of progress is directly correlated with preparation time for lessons. A minimum of 30 minutes practice a day, 5 days per week, is expected for a 30 minute lesson and 60 minutes of practice per day for 60 minute lessons. However, parents and students should remember that goal achievement, as outlined in the student’s lesson note book, is more important than the number of minutes practiced each day. My students are taught to reach specific goals during the week instead of “watching the clock.” At the same time, appropriate practice schedules are negotiated with each student. If that negotiation fails, the parents are called. Parents who think their student is not practicing enough should call me at (503) 740-3799. Prompt attendance at lessons is essential! I do my best to stay on time and ensure that each student receives full lesson time. Parents and siblings are welcomed and encouraged at lessons as long as they aren’t distracting.
Lessons Missed
Please call ahead if you know you will be missing a lesson. Lessons missed will be made up whenever possible. It is primarily the student’s responsibility to schedule a make up lesson. Messages can be left at my cell phone number: (503) 740-3799.
Billing for Music
A $30.00 fee is charged for music materials used by the student throughout the school year. The fee is due at the first lesson of the year. A record is kept of all materials purchased for each student, and any amount of the fee left over in one year is credited to the next. If purchases amount to more than $30.00, parents are contacted by note or phone, and billed the following month.
